Air quality HomeWelcome to the Hillingdon Air Quality Web PagesWelcome to the Hillingdon air quality web pages, the main source of air quality information for the Borough. These pages have been designed to inform you about the causes of poor air quality and what is being done about it, and also to let you know what air pollution is like today, over the previous week and even over previous years. The rest of this web site is divided into sections with differing levels of detail: Introduction : This tells you about the different pollutants which cause poor air quality, where they come from, what concentrations may cause adverse health effects, and who decides on the safe levels of pollutants. It also tells you about the Governments National Air Quality Strategy and what this means for local authorities. A general brochure about Hillingdon air quality can be downloaded from here. Local Air Quality Management : This section is all about what Hillingdon Borough Council is doing to assess it's air quality, and the measures which have been and will be put in place to improve areas of poor air quality. Occasionally there will be reports published in this section for public consultation, you can then click on a button to send back your comments. Air Quality Monitoring : This tells you more about where and how air quality is monitored in the Borough. Air Quality Data : Links to the latest summaries and graphs of air quality levels today and over the past week. For those wanting more detail, additional pages enable you to view or download a longer history of Hillingdons air quality, This part of the site is aimed primarily at researchers and academics, and as a result the data are quite specialist in nature. The Useful Links , Frequently Asked Questions and Contact Us sections of the web site enable to you to further explore related areas of interest and hopefully find answers to any queries you may have about the content of this site. ^ back to top ^ |

This programme has been very successfully implemented at various authorities throughout London and the UK and it is anticipated that it will bring significant benefits to Hillingdon by saving the Council money through effective management, promoting efficiencies and reducing energy bills and by allowing the authority to raise its profile as an exemplary organisation and lead by example. The primary focus of the work is to reduce emissions under the direct control of the Council arising from building energy use, street lighting, landfill waste and vehicle fleets. Care will be taken at all appropriate stages to ensure improving emissions of climate change runs in parallel with improving local air quality emissions.
